Tia Carrere, or Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo in real life, was born on January 2, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii but of a Filipino descent. She is the daughter of a computer supervisor and a banker. Tia dreamt to be a singer as a child. She tried her luck in 1985 Star Search but was eliminated during the first round. However, Carrere was subsequently spotted while shopping at a Waikiki grocery store and was casted in the movie "Aloha Summer".

Tia Carrere worked for several months as a model. She then landed her first ever role in TV on the series "Airwolf". Carrere's major break was in the daytime soap opera "General Hospital". She made guest appearances on the shows "MacGyver", "Anything But Love" and "Married... with Children".

Tia can also be seen in the movies "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man", "Showdown in Little Tokyo", "Wayne's World", "Wayne's World 2", "True Lies", "Rising Sun", "The Immortals", "The Daedalus Encounter" and "Kull the Conqueror".

The versatility and talent of this woman plus her beautiful looks made her named in the 1992 People magazine as one of the "50 most beautiful people" and ranked # 69 in FHM-USA's 100 Sexiest Women in 2001. Carrere also posed nude for the January 2003 issue of Playboy magazine, which became a top selling issue of Playboy 2003. In 2007, she did a brief, non-nude lesbian kissing scene with Lindy Booth in "Dark Honeymoon", which only in 2008 after the death of co-star Roy Scheider. On 2006, Tia could be seen on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars", her partner being 'Max Chmerkovskiy'.

On the personal life of Tia Carrere, she was married to Italian/Lebanese producer Elie Samaha on November 1992 and later on got divorced. Come December 2002, Carrere was remarried to Simon Wakelin and the couple presently has a child. This 5' 8" tall woman epitomizes beauty and grace.
