Lucy Alexis Liu, or more popularly known as just Lucy Liu, was born on the 2nd of December, 1968 at Queens, New York to Taiwanese immigrants, a biochemist mother and a civil engineer father. Her family spoke only Mandarin Chinese at home so Liu only learned to speak English when she was five. In 1986, Lucy Liu graduated from Stuyvesant High School. The acting career of Lucy Liu began when she had a guest appearance on "Beverly Hills 90210" in 1990. This was followed by having walk-on parts in "NYPD Blue" (1993), "ER" (1994), and "The X Files" (1993) and "Pearl" (1996). Liu's first big screen appearance was on Jerry Maguire (1996). She had her big break when she played the part of an ill-tempered lawyer in "Ally McBeal" (1997), where she became a regular cast.
