Bai Ling, an actress and a model, was born on the 10th of October, 1966 in Chengdu, China. Art is really in her blood as she is a product of a music teacher father and a stage actress and dancer mother. However, because of the nature of Ling's parent's jobs, they got persecuted during the Cultural Revolution.
Subsequently, Ling got enlisted in the Chinese people's Liberation Army when she was 14 years old. Her primary part there is to entertain the soldiers with her talent in acting and performing. She was very active and aware with the political situations of her country.
In 1991, this brave and idealistic woman immigrated to the USA. There, she found herself in Hollywood doing movies like "The Crow" in 1994, Oliver Stone's "Nixon" in 1995, "Red Corner" in 1997, "Anna and the King" in 1999 and the "Wild Wild West" in 1999. She then had a four line appearance in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith in 2005. In that same year, Bai Ling posed for Playboy on its June issue.
She also became a member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival. She was then nicknamed by German tabloids as "die Berlinackte" ("the Berlinaked"), for her dresses that almost failed to cover her essentials. However, Bai Ling's talent in acting was most acclaimed during her performance in the movie Sam gang yi ("Three Extremes: Dumplings") in 2004.
Bai Ling, or "white spirit" in English, had her share of controversies that all celebrities experience. According to the May 19, 2004 issue of New York Daily News, Ling "came out" as a bisexual. She also got arrested for shoplifting at the Los Angeles International Airport on February 13, 2008. However, that didn't stop her from being successful with her life.
